ANALYSIS OF TEXT – a framework

INTRODUCTION
· Engage the reader with an opening statement /question
· Give the main details of your text ie TITLE, GENRE, AUTHOR
· Introduce your topic
· Indicate the direction your analysis will take in relation to the topic, the text and real life – make about 4 points (strongest first)

BODY
· You should write a paragraph on each point listed in your introduction – in the same order
· Begin each paragraph with a topic sentence which introduces the main issue or point to be analysed
· Then use S + A + E + C (STATEMENT, ANALYSIS, EXAMPLES, COMMENT) as a basic formula.
· S is an analytical statement (see the WORDS WHICH SHOW ANALYSIS sheet)
· A is explain how this is done and how well, what is the effect?
· E is give examples from within the text and from real life
· C is a personal comment to show engagement and personal perspective
